An exciting romantic detective mystery/thriller. The author gives us a good insight into the day to day life and the beliefs of the Amish people while showing us how an outsider might view this interesting religious and cultural group. I don't know much about the Amish, but the information provided certainly sounded plausible and realistic. The story makes one believe that this author might have some "inside information" into this community. The story is fast paced with a good story line. Although there was some predictability, there are some unusual twists and turns with a surprise ending. I loved the book and would like to read more stories by this author.Tags : Undercover Amish (Covert Police Detectives Unit Series Book 1) - Kindle edition by Ashley Emma. Undercover Amish Covert Police Detectives Unit Series Book 1 edition by Ashley Emma Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Definitely a different type story. Some reviews say the author made the Amish sound stupid - I disagree. I believe this Amish group portrayed here is a small community that adheres to their old religion - never calling the police & no matter what, forgiving & turning it all over to God. Which frustrated me because I know we are to forgive but we are also to seek justice for those who are doing us wrong.
---- I completely understand why she left.
This book will keep you interested and you will not want to put it down. So much happening just within this Amish community then the surprise of who is doing all this harm and then when you think it is all over - another crime is found out.
Undercover Amish is a fantastic mystery involving the Amish written by Ashley Emma. I enjoyed the storyline very much. The author has done an awesome creating her characters to tell her story.
The characters are very likeable and realistic. I enjoyed getting to know Olivua and Isaac's story. They are both strong individuals who know exactly what they want to do with their lives.
Iwas not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. All opinions are strictly my own from reading this amazing story. I have rated this book with five stars because it has meant my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Ashley Emma for writing this suspense filled mystery for her readers to enjoy. This is my first book by this author and I will be researching for more.
I bought this book by accident but I am glad I did!
This book is a page turner and a story line that can not be predicted. I read this in one day..... I could not put it down.
Detective Olivia Mast use to be Amish. She left her Amish faith after she killed her abusive Amish husband in self defense.
Now six years later, there have been bad things happening in her old community. Her boss wants her to go undercover and solve the mystery. Olivia does not ever want to go back to all those buried memories but she also has to obey her boss. Believe me, this book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as you follow Olivia back to her old community and an old friend she cared for growing up and the twists and turns of a murder mystery.
This was a really good book with a different twist than other Amish romances I have read. It reminded me a lot of the movie "A Stranger Among Us" when the police officer went under cover in the Chassidic Jewish community to solve a case. In fact, I could see this book as a movie. I loved Olivia and understood her conflict of not being able to tell Isaac and her relatives what was going on and wanting to keep her job. Isaac was wonderful, and had his own conflicts like wanting to buy a gun to protect Olivia, but knowing he was going against the church.
There were a lot of plot twists I didn't expect. I loved the Maine setting, too!
When a series of crimes occur in the Amish community of Unity, Maine, Olivia Mast’s boss asks her to go back, ask for forgiveness for running off, and find out what’s going on. When she killed her husband in self-defense and left, she never planned to go back, but her job in law enforcement is important to her. Will her family and the community accept her, and what about Isaac, her first love?
I liked the first part of this book okay, although I didn’t like all the lies Olivia had to tell everyone. However, from about halfway on, the plot began to fall apart for me, and it became too far-fetched. Olivia also became too inept and made such stupid mistakes. These Amish seemed more born-again than any I’ve ever heard of, and they talked about their personal relationship with God. I’m used to the Amish being more legalistic. They even worshipped in a church building, and Olivia’s uncle prayed at meals instead of everyone doing their own silent prayer. Several people acted out-of-character, from the nurse at the hospital to Isaac. I didn’t even buy all the criminals’ actions and why they did what they did. And Olivia’s Amish family wouldn’t have been able to receive and read her letters after she was shunned. There was even a Bella Reeves (instead of Della Reeves). I barely made it through the last half to a very weak ending.
I was hesitant to read about crime in the Amish community, as something about that concept really breaks my heart. However, the idea of the main character who was previously Amish, going back to solve crime(s), right wrongs, and reunite with her true love -well, I couldn't resist.
This story had a few crazy and unexpected twists and was not as predictable as I thought it would be. I actually got frustrated when I was interrupted from reading (or, listening via text-to-speech feature) because I didn't want to miss any details (or excitement, really). As a romantic-suspense story, I didn't feel bombarded with too much detail nor that questions were left unanswered; the tone, flow, and quantity of details felt balanced. I loved this story and would read more by this author.
