First off, if you like the TV series, you will like the book.
This is one of my favorite TV shows, if you really watch,
it is all but a training manual, on how to conduct covert operations
and all the "good" little things you are trained/taught to do.
I hope to see as many Burn Notice books as the CSI series puts out.
A "fun" read........

I would have never bought this book if it were not called Burn Notice!
I much rather perfer a good sci fi or fantasy book as usually the authors are much better writers. I would not tell someone that this book if for them if they had never heard of Burn Notice- as you have to know way too much of what is going on in the story to appreciate what happens in the book.
Does this time line flow as seemlessly as most authors are able to write into movie tie ins like Star Wars? NO!
Am I reading the book so that I may read what I watch only 42 min. a few times a year? YES! I want my Burn Notice Fix! (pun intended)
Is it a good book - ehh... Is it what there is? Yeap!

Got to give it 5 stars as I want to have this author know that - You have to keep writing and keep writng better please so that you can write more Burn Notice books!

I am a library nut btw- unfortunally none of the State of Hawaii carries any Burn Notice books!

I shelled out $7.99 and now see that it is slightly cheaper. OOOOOOHHHHH well.

Do not buy this book thinking it is worth $8 as a stand alone book. Buy this book because you are a Burn Notice fan and want to show your support for your favorite show!
I love Burn Notice, so I hoped I could tolerate the book. And it was tolerable, just barely.
I don't think the author likes the show. He probably watched each episode once. And since this was written in the mid first season time line, I would bet that wasn't too many episodes. He drew Michael slightly off his character. Michael has no soft side in the book. He almost does, but it amounts to about 4 sentences. He's a little too cynical and Michael in the show is more pragmatic with a streak of idealism.

He almost captures Michael's voice as heard in the shows voice overs, but not quite. And he spends far too much time describing in cynical detail the world around him. Michal would spend less time on moralistic judgments on the south beach scenery and more time describing it in terms of exit strategies and leverage points. And even if he did, he wouldn't spend pages on describing it.

The plot was not very tight. He was of course trying to turn in some surprises, but as a pot boiler, which is what he was trying to write, he missed his mark.

Its written in first person but badly, since we have him describing scenes not witnessed by Michael as though in third person narrator. Its not overly clear that they are Michael retelling Sam's version of the story. Not well done.

But I finished it, which I am not inclined to do when a book is really bad bad junk. So either I gave it extra leeway because I like the show or it had enough merit on its own to keep me going. Not really sure which myself.

But my biggest gripe, was the misuse of grammar. Which might have been a glitch, but still it was repeated and weird.
For example, he used "aside" instead of "beside" and more of that nature. But since that was more of an anomaly in otherwise reasonable grammar, I'm inclined to think it was a bad job copy editing the kindle version.
Gotta tell you, Burn Notice is my favorite TV show.

It's a little familiar with its good guy con man, admittedly formulaic with each individual episode of a major con devoting a few minutes to the continuing storyline that ties together episodes, all with a contemporary mix of bikinis, party music beat, gadgets, quips, spycraft tips, and swank Miami. And I eat this stuff up.

So naturally I got a couple of the Burn Notice books.

In this one, Michael agrees to help a socialite who's been taken by a would-be paramour who has cleaned out her sizable bank account. He's still in the area so there's a chance to recoup. There's also a lady Russian who has a past with Michael and may be able to help him with his burn notice.

Must admit, i was curious how the author would keep the story consistent with the TV show without actually interfering with the show's continuing storyline. Novelist Tod Goldberg has done a fine job. Michael Westen's voice comes through as he tells the story, mixing in the trademak Burn Notice spycraft, and the result is an entertaining read.

An original story, familiar and enjoyable characters, and the result is quite readable, better than the usual movie or TV fan souvenir.
Not a good book. Plot is both overly complicated and simplistic at the same time. The characters are unlike how they are in the show, and more like the author already had most of a story written, and then shoved the Burn Notice crew in, and then added some flavor scenes. As has been said in other reviews, Michael is pretty much a jerk to almost everybody, while Fiona is a bitchy pain who you can't figure would have ever been attracted to Michael in the first place. There is gratuitous swearing (and I swear like a sailor, but it's out of place and feels contrived in the book) and too much "filling in parts you don't see in the TV show", such as multiple scenes of Sam working his magic with contacts that just come across as "Great, get on with it already". Sam isn't charming, and yet the reader is constantly told "Oh Sam, the ladies all like him! Makes friends with everybody!" while there is no evidence of it in the book. There is plenty of evidence that he's a not very bright guy who's been getting by on charm and b.s. though, which also doesn't play well with what you know from the series. It's pretty obvious this was the first book of the series, as the writer has little to no feel for the characters.
First off, if you like the TV series, you will like the book.
